Everyone knows that accessories can spruce up an outfit, right? Wrong! Lots of girls are really in need of the 411 on how to make your average outfit anything but average. All it takes is a couple cute pieces of fashion jewelry, and your outfit goes from a zero to a ten in hipness in less than five minutes.

For example, take a pair of jeans and a long sleeve standard navy T-shirt from the Gap. This outfit, which is very plain and simple, can be spruced up with a few fun accessories. Let's start with some chunky bangle bracelets. You can find these at any department store, Aldo accessories store, or even online at the Claire's accessories website. The best part about these funky chunky bracelets? They're super cheap and super durable; perfect for those rough nights out on the town.

Another great accessory is earrings; any type will do. But, if you've got a cute printed dress or skirt that needs something fun to amp it up, some stenciled teardrop earrings (urbanoutfitters.com has some filigree teardrop ones for only $18) can put you right up on the mark with some of the hottest trends for accessories fashion. Even better - dig into your mother and grandmother's boxes of old vintage jewelry and I bet you'll find some cute pearl or colored ball post earrings, which, believe it or not, are back on the market. A pair of cute red ball posts go great with any black, beige, or blue top.

My personal favorite? For long or short hair, wearing either a headband or scarf in your hair with a plain colored top has become such an "in" look this season. However, instead of putting the headband or scarf at the start of your hairline, right by your forehead, the new style is wearing it right on the top of your head, in the middle of your hair line. Here's the trick on how to get the look: start by pulling your hair back in a low ponytail. Take the headband or scarf and secure it on the top of your head (if you're using a scarf, bobby pins usually help keep it in place). Then, slowly pull the ponytail out and let your hair hang loose. If you have bangs or some shorter layers in the front, pull them out and let them hang over your ears and a little bit in front of your face. It's a great look when you don't have too much time to spend on your hair. Cute and simple: that's my motto.

Now, everyone needs hats, gloves and scarves for the winter. But, instead of mixing and matching the trio, you can find some cute sets that will go with any outfit you wear. The Gap, Old Navy, and H&M all have beanie hat, scarf, and gloves sets for reasonable prices (starting as low as $19.99 per set). A solid color such as a beige, blue, red or brown will be much more wearable with any color you have on. If you want to go funky though, try a printed set to wear for special occasions. Wool serves as the best material for these sets: it's long lasting, warm and comfy!

Pashmina's are one of the cheapest and most wearable all season round. These shawls are great to throw on to keep your neck warm against the chill of severe winter weather. Where can you find them? On about every corner of every block of 5th Avenue in New York City. They sell for about five dollars each, in any color you could imagine. If you can't make it to NYC to do a little vendor shopping for some winter scarves, no big deal, go online to www.peachcouture.com, where you'll find silk, suede, fur, cashmere, and any other kind of Pashmina you want, each for a very reasonable price. (Hurry! If you go and visit the website now, they are having a special promotional sale-$9.95 per Pashmina!)

Accessories are vital for every season and don't you hot fashionistas forget it. You wear the accessories, they don't wear you. Rock your style.
