The University of Massachusetts Alumni Association took cues from a generation raised on MySpace and Facebook and created a social networking site of its own.
Called the "Alumni Online Community," the Web site features familiar features like a personal profile, the ability to connect with friends and message exchange options.
Additionally, there are more career-related features, such as an alumni directory and a place to upload resumes, as well a searchable job listings database and business profiles. Online tools will be available to teach interviewing and salary negotiation skills as well.
"The real value in any network is the new contacts - be they social or professional - that are possible. Only members have access to additional online tools to make those valuable new connections," an Alumni Association statement read. "They have expanded search capabilities in the directory to find alumni living in target areas, working in specific professions, or with like interests."
The service is only available to University alumni, who can join at umassalumni.com.
