Students in recession

I imagine, if a real depression like the one America experienced in the 1920s happens, what good my journalism and women's studies degrees would be for me. If I am working for a TV station or a newspaper, will people be able to afford any them? Or, if I am utilizing my studies of women, will anyone be interested in knowing how 'depression' is affecting women or the question of gender? I have even heard my professor jokingly question the value of education and I tried to picture myself as a retail business woman.

Obama and Mumbai

By now, we have all seen the images of carnage and horror from Mumbai, India. At last count, close to 200 people laid dead, two luxury hotels sat partly in ruins, a Jewish Chabad House was the scene of a calculated massacre, and Mumbai, the nucleus of the nation's financial industry, chaotically attempted to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of the most recent terrorist attacks by Islamic extremists.

Once again, the same old intolerance

Fifty years ago, Virginia police kicked down the door of a newlywed couple while they lay in bed together. The panicked husband, Richard Loving, pointed to their marriage certificate displayed on the wall. That was evidence enough to try them as felons under the state's law against interracial marriage.

An American holiday season

Now that Thanksgiving is over, we are officially in the holiday season. The holiday season has a special meaning. It means more than receiving gifts. It means more than giving gifts. It means more than merely showing someone that you care. It is about giving thanks to those that support you and it opens our eyes to what we can do to enrich the lives of others.
