AEPi teams for local restoration

Henry L. Pope III felt the brothers of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity at the University of Massachusetts had been unfairly dealt a poor reputation. Like a stereotypical fraternity, AEPi had been labeled as a group of lazy troublemakers and were looked at negatively by some Amherst residents.

Microbe gets more funding

UM project attracts four grants

The Department of Energy has given four research grants to local company Qteros, formerly SunEthanol, which will be building a plant in Springfield starting next year. The company is based around "Q," a microbe found in the Quabbin Reservoir by University of Massachusetts microbiologist Thomas Warnick.

Energy conservation helping UMass economy

Four years ago, the University of Massachusetts adopted methods of energy conservation that have helped it save more than $5 million per year. These measures have also cut consumption of steam, electricity, and water, according to Joyce Hatch, vice chancellor for Administration and Finance.

Smith College goes green

Northampton - Smith College goes green after significantly cutting its carbon footprint in recent months. The greener campus is not only due to on-campus student groups that have raised awareness and consciousness about environmental conservation but also to the work of the Environmental Sustainability Committee.
