UMass dorms burglarized: Suspects may have falsely solicited money for cancer fund

Two suspects who allegedly broke into three University of Massachusetts dormitories and stole thousands of dollars worth of electronics Tuesday, reportedly have been falsely soliciting funds for a cancer foundation, according to the UMass Police Department.

SGA discusses meal plans, upcoming Amherst elections

With 24 Senators present, discussion moved from the upcoming SGA elections and town of Amherst elections, to the recent vote by the Board of Trustees to hike the tuition price for University of Massachusetts students.

WAVERLY, Iowa - The frequent trips to the bathroom, locking the door and turning up the radio. The skipped dinners. The excessive workouts. Mandy Kakac saw all these signs, which sparked concern that her friend was in trouble. It wasn't until college that her friend was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder that affects one in every five women.

Study suggests women value clothes more than sex

According to a pre-Valentine poll taken by consumer products company Unilever, the average woman would prefer to abstain from sex for up to 15 months in exchange for a closet full of new clothes.

The Illinois couple's fight to continue shock treatment on their severely autistic 48-year-old son and the uproar over a Massachusetts school that uses similar treatment have pulled back the curtain on this extreme form of behavior modification.

Porn interrupts news broadcast

Viewers of a news show broadcast on a Phoenix-area cable television station received a lot more than news - hard-core pornography started streaming into their living rooms, replacing a health show featuring former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw. The incident on KPPX-TV Monday night prompted a flood of calls to local news media outlets and cable provider Cox Communications, including one from Chandler resident Brenda Schodt, who said she was shocked to look up and see graphic sex acts on her television screen.

Two bodies found at Lynne fire scene

LYNN, Mass. - The bodies of a man and a woman were found Wednesday at the scene of an explosion and fire in a commercial building, the district attorney said. Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said the deaths appear to be a "domestic violence situation by use of an incendiary device.

Bush's proposal may be beneficial

Included in President Bush's $2.9 trillion budget proposal is an increase in the Pell Grant, according to the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
