Raging Grannies hold anti-war rally in Greenfield

The Raging Grannies, a local group advocating peace and government reform, staged a rally to support five members of the group who were arrested while protesting the war in Iraq yesterday. The protest, which was held in front of the Greenfield District courthouse, included the Raging Grannies and two dozen of their supporters, many adorned with colorful signs, clothes and buttons, and used the power of words and song to protest the war in Iraq.

UMass grad student falls to his death

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute was the place where Anson Tripp had spent some of the best days of his undergraduate life - and it was also where he spent his last minutes of it. A University of Massachusetts graduate student in the Transportation Engineering department ended his life last Thursday when he plunged to his death in a stairwell on the RPI campus.

Candle light vigil to be held for Martin Luther King

Survey: 67% of students don't care about illegal downloading

Even with the risk of becoming involved in legal trouble with the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), it seems college students nationwide are overlooking the repercussions of illegal downloading. According to a survey conducted last week by SurveyU - a Brooklyn-based group of technologists and researchers with expertise in creating interactive survey research dialogue for the modern college student - 67 percent of students on college campuses are still not concerned with the with their illegal downloading habits.

Researchers predict active hurricane season

DENVER - The 2007 Atlantic hurricane season should be "very active," with nine hurricanes and a good chance that at least one major hurricane will hit the U.S. coast, a top researcher said Tuesday. Forecaster William Gray said he expects 17 named storms in all this year, five of them major hurricanes with sustained winds of 111 mph or greater.

Woman gets DUI while on horseback

SYLVANIA, Ala. - A woman who went for a horseback ride through town at midnight and allegedly used the horse to ram a police car was charged with driving under the influence and drug offenses, police said Tuesday. "Cars were passing by having to avoid it, and almost hitting the horse," said Police Chief Brad Gregg.

Couple fights to name daughter Metallica

Gunfire at CNN complex kills one

ATLANTA - A domestic dispute erupted in gunfire at CNN's headquarters complex Tuesday, killing a woman and critically wounding the ex-boyfriend who pulled a gun on her, authorities said.
