Gaming gains speed at UM

The Hospitality and Tourism Management department at the University of Massachusetts will launch a new casino management program. UMass will become the only university on the east coast to offer such a program. The creation of the program coincides with Governor Deval Patrick's move to authorize three resort casinos in the state of Massachusetts.

Nationally-acclaimed University of Massachusetts faculty members received awards for bringing in grant money, submitting patents and, in one case, inventing "fish-flavored ice cream." The UMass faculty convocation ceremony, held in Stockbridge hall on Saturday, called attention to eight professors' outstanding contributions to UMass academics.

University of Massachusetts students can now display to the world just how utterly repulsive dorm living can be. The popular online shopping site, www.walldaddy.com, offers aid for students stuck in the ugliest dorm rooms with a national contest, The World's Worst College Rooms for 2007, in order to find the worst of the worst.

Du Bois packs students into study areas

Overcrowding at the W.E.B. Du Bois Library learning commons is an issue staff members are trying to alleviate during peak hours. For guaranteed working space, many students decided reserving one of the library's 361 study carrels was a better option than searching for a seat in the commons.
