The University of Massachusetts Community Campaign (UMACC) surpassed its goal of $425,000, as campus employees donated $454,833 to local, regional and international charitable organizations. This year's participation rate was 37 percent with 1,761 individual donors.
The UMACC solicits donations from UMass employees to benefit charitable organizations. Employees can donate to the campaign in a number of ways, including payroll deduction, cash and credit card payments. The organization focuses giving once a year, thus eliminating repeated requests in the workplace for donations. It also allows employees to donate to specific charities of their choice.
According to UMACC's Web site, last year UMass employees pledged $449,505 with Leaders' Circle members pledging 74 percent of the total dollars in that 2006 campaign.
The Leaders' Circle is a group of individuals who each contribute $500 or more and was established in 1993 to stimulate participation in the UMACC.
According to the UMACC Web site, the main goal of the 2007 campaign is, "to create and implement a program that recognizes and responds to the diverse charitable interests and values of our employees and which offers opportunities for campus pride."
