Less than 24 hours after men's basketball coach Travis Ford announced that he no longer wanted to be considered for the head coaching position at Louisiana State University, Ford interviewed for the Providence job Wednesday afternoon. Multiple media sources reported yesterday that Ford was a candidate for the job.

Sophomore shortstop Whitney Williams opened up the game by singing the national anthem and then led off for the Massachusetts softball team with a homerun in the bottom of the first inning. UMass crushed Boston College, 8-0 in five innings. Williams went 2-for-3 including a bunt single to continue a seven-run rally in the bottom of the third inning.

The Massachusetts baseball team will play at Fenway Park for the 13th straight season in the annual Beanpot Tournament on April 16. For the first time in seven years it will be taking part in the championship game, rather than the consolation. UMass defeated Harvard, 3-0, last night in the first round of the Beanpot in Lynn behind stellar pitching from junior Mike Dicato to advance to the championship where it will face Boston College.
Temple improved its standing in the Atlantic 10 this week with a pair of key wins over conference rivals La Salle and Massachusetts, scoring a total of 30 goals over the two games. The Owls exploded for 18 goals in an 18-12 win over the Explorers and followed that up with a 12-9 victory over the Minutewomen.
