After having served in the wake of John V. Lombardi's controversial departure, Interim Chancellor Thomas Cole greeted the press on the 10th floor of the Campus Center yesterday with a quip. "No one is more delighted than I to welcome you," he said before the announcement of the new chancellor.
On May 14, Interim Chancellor Thomas Cole will recognize 21 staff members and student employees with awards for their contributions to the University of Massachusetts. Ten students will be receiving the Gerald F. Scanlon Student Employee of the Year award: Julie Bach, Meghan Connors, Collin Easton, Ross Farinella, Steven Joubanian, Samantha Lazo, Angela Markley, Johanna Metterville, Sarah Rulfs and Theodore Slowick.
Six Distinguished Teaching Awards have been given to four faculty members and two graduate students at the University of Massachusetts, recognizing their excellence in the classroom. The University of Massachusetts has received a $1.6 million grant from the United States Agency for International Development to continue supporting judicial education in China. Working in cooperation with the Massachusetts Judges Conference and the American Bar Association, the University will use the funds to head up the Enhanced Judicial Education in China Project, a three-year in-depth presentation of Western approaches to evidence, discovery, court information and transparency and alternative dispute resolution techniques.
