The deadline for this story - which is supposed to encompass the entire year down here at the Collegian, which I spend nearly every second of my life at - was at 5 p.m. Naturally, I'm writing this sentence at 6:48 p.m. Yeah, I'm that guy.
It's no wonder why every professor I've had hates me so much…I'm never in class. Heck, I spent more time in New York covering the UMass basketball team's run in the NIT than I did in the classroom this semester. Sorry mom.
And because of all of the traveling (to Atlantic City and New York four times for basketball, to Virginia, Maine, Rhode Island and New York for Football) my bank account is as empty as Britney Spears' brain and I need as many years to graduate as Van Wilder did.
Because of all the all-nighters at the Collegian, the over 200 stories I wrote, the traveling, the interviews, the nights of work, the nights of just hanging out for no reason and the nights of arguing with everyone about why the Red Sox suck…I missed out on a real social life and pissed off my parents because graduating in four years became impossible.
So I'll be back next year as the new Sports Editor for the Massachusetts Daily Collegian, but only for the first semester because I should graduate after that. Maybe. Possibly. Oh, who cares?
I know it's cliché to say, but I literally spent just about every second of my life doing something Collegian-related. And almost every single time it consisted of me being made fun of by someone - or, more typically, by everyone.
But that's what makes this place so much fun. All my non-Collegian friends (and trust me, I don't have many) often ask me why I'm always down there, and it's hard to explain. Even if you take away the simple fact that I need the experience here to get a job upon graduation, being associated with the Collegian was the greatest decision I've ever made.
I've met so many incredible people down here; classmates that I will remain friends with for the rest of my life. And that's invaluable. And it's special.
