The Minutemen might not have played exactly how they would have liked - committing penalties, dropping passes and missing tackles, but they earned the result they wanted.
Shaking off the nerves that come with the start of a new season, the Minutemen came together as a team after the first quarter, outscoring Albany 28-7.
However, the Minutemen must focus on the other games if they want to get back on the road to the postseason.
Here's a look at the upcoming schedule…
Sept. 13- at Holy Cross
The Minutemen travel to Worcester to start their three-game road trip. For the first time since 1996, the Minutemen will visit Holy Cross's confines.
Last year the Minutemen came out on top, 40-30, in the first game for both teams.
The season opener for Holy Cross will showcase the top two quarterbacks in the FCS.
Sept. 13- at James Madison
The Minutemen play the second of their three-game road trip against James Madison in Harrisonburg, V.A. The two teams last met in 2005 where UMass defeated James Madison, 10-7.
The Dukes sported an 8-4 record last season, making it to the post season, but losing to Appalachian State in the first round.
JMU was routed by Duke last Saturday, 31-7.
Sept. 20- at Texas Tech
The now No. 12 Texas Tech sports one of the nations top offenses as well as one of the nation's elite quarterbacks in Graham Harrell. This season's BCS opponent will no doubt be UMass' toughest test.
If UMass wants a fighting chance in keeping up with the Raiders, the Maroon and White defense will have to be stellar all game long.
Oct. 4- Delaware
Fortunately for the Minutemen, Delaware will be without the likes of first-round draft pick Joe Flacco (Ravens) and Omar Cuff (Browns) running the offensive side of the ball.
