You may have seen him on VH1's "Countdown" or Showtime's "White Boyz in the Hood," but now comedian Steve Hofstetter will hit Stockbridge Hall at 8 p.m. with his act, "The Thinking Man's Comic," thanks to the brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Hofstetter performs at over 100 schools each year, and will stop at UMass as part of his fall tour. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door or in advance through his official website, www.stevehofstetter.com.

Feeling creative? The Student Union Art Gallery is hosting a Collaborative Art Social at 7 p.m. in preparation for its collaborative art exhibit in October, which will include visual art, sound art, movement, performing arts, music, literature, dance, and theater. To attend, contact Kerry O'Grady at kerryogrady@gmail.com or stop by the Student Union Art Gallery.

Author John Ashbery will be appearing at this week's Visiting Writers Series at 8 p.m. in Memorial Hall. The event is sponsored by the MFA Program for Poets and Writers and the Juniper Initiative, the UMass Arts Council, the UMass Alumni Association, Vice Provost of Research, the English Department and the Dean of Humanities and Fine Arts. Ashbery has won a Pulitzer Prize, Yale Series of Younger Poets Award, the National Book Award as well as the National Book Critics Circle Award. This intellectually inspiring event will be free of charge and is open to the public.
